Apollo Earthworks posi-track wet hire in Melbourne
Overview

Machine and operator. One call.

Wet hire means you get the machine and a ticketed operator on the back of it. No mucking around with dry hire logistics, induction and tickets, or the worry of who is running the gear on your site. We turn up, work the day, and the job moves forward.

Apollo Earthworks runs a fleet of excavators from 1.7T to 30T, posi-tracks, skid steers, tandem tipper trucks and machinery floats. Whatever your site needs, we have the gear and the people to run it.

Builders, contractors, landscapers and owner-builders all use our wet hire service for one reason - it is straightforward and reliable.

Process

How wet hire and haulage with Apollo works

Whether you need an excavator and operator for a week, or a tipper run of road base to a new build, the process is the same: book it once, get the machine plus operator and float, pay a single fixed rate.

01

Brief and book

Tell us the machine size, attachments, dates, site address, and scope of work. We confirm availability the same day for standard requests and return a fixed wet-hire or haulage rate with everything included.

02

Float and mobilise

We float the machine to site on the agreed start date with all attachments, fuel and operator paperwork (White Card, machine tickets, SWMS). No chasing trucks, no separate freight invoice.

03

Run the program

Your site supervisor or builder directs the daily program; our operator runs the machine to spec. You get experienced hands on the levers, not someone learning on your job.

04

Cartage and tipping

Tandem tippers carry spoil, soil, sand, road base, scoria, or rubble in and out as the program needs. Tipping fees billed at cost with receipts attached if you need them for the build cost record.

05

Daily sign-off

Hours, loads, and any variations confirmed at the end of each day so there are no surprises on the final invoice. If the scope changes mid-week, we re-quote in writing before continuing.

06

Demob and invoice

Machine floated off, site swept, and the itemised invoice issued the same week. Receipts and load dockets supplied where they form part of your build cost record.

Cost factors

What drives wet hire and haulage rates in Melbourne?

Apollo Earthworks quotes wet hire and haulage as fixed day or week rates. The drivers below explain why a 1.7T excavator and a 20T excavator sit at different price points, and what tips the program one way or the other.

Every quote includes operator, fuel, attachments confirmed at brief stage, and float. No mystery line items.

Machine size

Compact 1.7T excavators run cheapest per hour; 20T-30T machines sit at the upper end. Posi-Tracks and skid steers price between the compact and mid excavators. We size the machine to the dig - putting a 30T on a residential pad just costs you money.

Attachments

Rock breaker hammer, auger, ripper, or trenching bucket all carry an attachment fee on top of the base rate. The fee is small relative to the time saved when the job actually needs the attachment. We will tell you straight if it does not.

Float and mobilisation

Floating a machine onto site has a fixed cost regardless of how long it stays. Single-day wet hire bookings carry the same float cost as a week, so the per-day rate looks higher on short jobs. Multi-day programs amortise it across the program.

Cartage volume and distance

Tipper haulage is priced per load or per hour depending on the run. Distance to tip site, traffic windows, and weight of material all factor in. Spoil cartage on a tight inner-Melbourne block costs more per cube than the same volume on an outer-suburbs greenfield site.

Booking length

Week-long wet hire is cheaper per day than single-day bookings because the float and mobilisation costs spread across more working hours. If you have a program that runs three days or more, ask about the weekly rate.

FAQ

Wet hire and haulage, common questions

What is the difference between wet hire and dry hire?

+

Wet hire means you get the machine plus a ticketed operator, fuel, and transport included. Dry hire is the machine only - you supply the operator. Apollo offers wet hire only, because keeping our operators on the machines protects the equipment and guarantees the job is run by someone who knows it.

How much does excavator wet hire cost in Melbourne?

+

Excavator wet hire rates depend on machine size. Compact 1.7T-5T excavators are the most affordable for residential and tight access. 8T-20T machines suit civil and commercial work. 30T machines for bulk excavation are quoted on application. All rates include operator, fuel and float, and are quoted by the day or week for cost certainty.

Do you provide tipper trucks for spoil and material runs?

+

Yes. Apollo runs tandem tipper trucks for spoil cartage, soil and sand delivery, road base, scoria, crushed rock, and demolition rubble runs. Tipper hire is available standalone or bundled with excavator wet hire and earthworks scope.

What is Posi-Track wet hire used for?

+

Posi-Track is a tracked skid steer that combines the agility of a skid steer with the lower ground pressure of tracks. It is the go-to machine for finishing work, landscaping, soft ground access, and sites where wheel marks are a concern. Apollo's Posi-Track wet hire suits landscapers, builders, and concreters working over sensitive ground.

Do you supply attachments like rock breakers and augers?

+

Yes. Rock breaker hammers, augers, ripper teeth, mud buckets and trenching buckets are available across the fleet. Tell us what the job needs at quote stage and we will confirm what is available and price the attachment in.

Can you do material haulage without machine work?

+

Yes. Apollo runs standalone material haulage for builders, concreters, landscapers and DIYers who need soil, sand, road base, scoria, mulch or rubble shifted on or off site. We quote per load or per program depending on volume and distance.

How do I book wet hire or haulage with Apollo?

+

Call 0431 560 908 with the machine size, attachments, dates and site address. We confirm availability, send a fixed quote, and lock in the booking. Float and mobilisation are included in the quoted rate so there are no hidden add-ons on the invoice.
